Jazz Dinner Dance

Mark your calendars for Feb. 20, 2010! That’s the date you’ll be donning your dancing shoes and getting ready to have a good time at the Campolindo Jazz Dinner Dance. The kids get to dance the night away at Homecoming, Junior Prom and Senior Ball, but how many opportunities do us parents get to trip the light fantastic? That must be why the annual Jazz Dinner Dance draws such crowds. That, plus the really great music. And good food. And excellent company.

County Honor Band

Congratulations to the Campolindo High School musicians who just made County Honor Band! They include Scott Gregory, Melinda Schneider, Amy Burrell, Grace Ma, Lindsay Willmore and Elise Becker. The 2010 Contra Costa County Honor Band will be performing under the direction of Dr. Frank Tracz of Kansas State University on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. right here at the Campolindo Performing Arts Center.

Campolindo’s Concert Band, Orchestra and Symphonic Band were in fine form for their recent concert, which featured Gustav Holst’s Second Suite for Band with soprano Erika Henningsen (pictured, below), Frank Tichelli’s “An American Elegy,” and more.

An Evening of Jazz

All That Jazz, a concert featuring the Campolindo Jazz Band will be held Thursday, December 10th at 7:30 p.m. in the Campolindo Performing Arts Center.  Everyone is invited to the concert and accompanying reception.  Special guest artists for the evening will be Fundz Jazz, a group of veteran San Francisco Bay area musicians who have performed together in a wide variety of musical ensembles over the last 20 years.  They come together in Fundz Jazz to perform some of their favorite jazz compositions from the last five decades.  The group includes John Xepoleas, drums;  Mike Williams, guitar; Marc Levine, bass; and Dave Scott, trumpet.  Please join us!

Fall Concert Thursday, November 19 at 7:30 p.m.

The Campolindo Music Department will present its fall concert on Thursday, November 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Campolindo Performing Arts Center.  The free concert features performances by the orchestra, and symphonic and concert bands, under the direction of Harvey Benstein.  Works to be performed include Tchaikovsky’s Serenda for Strings, Gustav Hoist’s Second Suite for Band, featuring soprano Erika Henningsen, Frank Tichelli’s An American Elegy, E.F. Goldman’s Chimes for Liberty March, Puccini’s Nessum Dorma, Adolphus Hailstork’s New Wade ‘n Water, and Robert Smith’s Encanto.  In addition to enjoying the concert, the community is invited to meet and greet the musicians and enjoy refreshments in the multi-use room following the performance.

Titanic the Musical

Coming soon to the Campolindo Performing Arts Center: The musical “Titanic”!

No Kate and Leo, no Celine Dion – this musical was written before anyone started warbling about hearts going on (and on and on). This award winning musical sketches the real story of the officers, crew and passengers aboard the famous, ill-fated ocean liner. Titanic opened on Broadway in 1997 and won five Tony awards, including Best Musical, Best Book and Best Score, which bodes well for the sizzling crew of orchestra musicians in the pit this March. Mr. Benstein will have the sign up lists, but you’ll be rehearsing and performing under Stacey Kikkawa’s baton. The pit orchestra begins evening rehearsals in mid-January in the band room. Expect longer rehearsals in the CPAC as showtime – March 11-20 – nears.

8th Annual Pops Concert & Potluck Dinner

All Campolindo High School musicians and family members are warmly invited to help kick off our 2009-2010 season at Campolindo Music Boosters’ 8th Annual Pops Concert & Potluck Dinner.

Monday, October 5, 2009
Dinner at 6:00 p.m.
Concert at 7:00 p.m.

Dinner will be followed by an informal Music Boosters meeting and a fabulous Pops Concert performance by the award winning Campolindo Instrumental Music Students. Join us for a friendly and relaxing evening of good food, good friends and wonderful music!
